Japanese firms IPMobile and IPWireless jointly start field tests in the 2.5GHz band of TD-CDMA Evolved Release 7 (E-R7) system, the newest technical release based on UMTS TD-CDMA technology. IPMobile has been granted the license to conduct the field test last December.

Vietnam's EVN Telecom secures permission from the Vietnamese government to deploy a 3G CDMA network in the 1900Mhz bands. The company has to also provide a report on the trial of its WiMAX service, and may receive a license for commercial operations shortly of the fixed-wireless service.

Yahoo and Dash Navigation sign pact to combine online search for local businesses with GPS guidance systems for cars. The Dash Express service will be rolled out initially in California, the two firms said.
