IBM and Cisco sign a deal on a joint effort to create an industry-wide unified communications and collaboration platform. The expectation is that a single open platform, rather than a potpourri of platforms offered by multiple vendors, will entice a large number of developers to design communications services for the enterprise.

Cingular plans to offer programs from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for its mobile phone subscribers. The firm also said the agreement with the WWE would include the selling of everything from ringtones with famous wrestlers' voices to graphics and videos.

Wikipedia says it will start requiring contributors to identify themselves and present credentials. The move came following revelations that a high-ranking member of Wikipedia's bureaucracy used his cloak of anonymity to lie about being a professor of religion.
