South Korea's Hynix secures a government clearance to expand microchip production lines. The firm said South Korea's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy will allow Hynix to expand production facilities in Cheongju.

Infonetics Research reports that worldwide mobile phone sales hit $115.5 billion in 2006, and Wi-Fi phone sales topped $535 million, up 13% and 327% from 2005, respectively. As prices continue to drop, demand will continue to grow for both mobile and Wi-Fi phones, the research firm said.

The UK's O2 selects Ectel to provide the carrier with next generation fraud detection and prevention solutions. The new release was chosen for its advanced capabilities and superior performance in handling high transaction volumes, Ectel said.
