The Macau government awards 3G wireless licenses to Hutchison Telephone (Macau) and Macau Unicom, units of Hutchison Telecommunications International and China Unicom. A third license was granted to local company Companhia de Telecomunicacoes de Macau.

Nokia adds access to some Oracle business software to some phone models of its loss-making enterprise unit. The Oracle programs, Mobile Field Service and Siebel Wireless, can be accessed from Nokia's BlackBerry-like E61 and E62 handset models, the company said.

Siemens automates DWDM with the launch of its new SURPASS hiT 7300. The company said it employs consistent automation to combine the simplicity of metro systems with the performance of long-haul systems, reducing the cost of putting a DWDM link into service by about 60%.
