Huawei signs a contract with Belgium's Mobistar for the deployment of mobile switching centers for 2G/3G Mobistar core network. The deployment marks the transition of the Mobistar core network from a traditional TDM architecture to a distributed IP architecture and will be implemented over several years.

NXP Semiconductors, formerly Philips Semiconductors, and Sony agree to establish by mid-year 2007 a joint venture on contactless smart card applications in mobile phones. The anticipated JV will plan, develop, produce and market a secure chip that will include both MIFARE and FeliCa operating systems and applications.

Forrester Research reports that France has nearly 1 million bloggers, making it the most active European country in terms of the Internet personal Web sites. The report said only 3% of Europe's estimated 130 million Internet users create blogs.

Motorola secures a deal with Yemen's SabaFon to increase the coverage range and capacity of the operator's GSM network. The network expansion initiative, using a Motorola Reach GSM solution, will widen the scope of SabaFon's reach in both the northern and southern regions of Yemen.
