India's Flag Telecom, a private undersea cable operator, plans to expand its global optic fiber network to provide service to customers across the globe. The firm said the initial phase of the expansion plan covers India, Malaysia Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei and Hong Kong.

The UMTS Forum predicts that the global 3G industry is on the brink of gaining its first 100 million UMTS/WCDMA customers. The group said the 100 million-subscriber milestone is due to be passed at the start of 2007.

Samsung unveils what it says is the thinnest HSDPA slide-up mobile currently available. The firm said the Ultra Edition 13.8 handset weighs only 80 grams, which is extremely light for a HSDPA handset.

Jinan Yinquan Technology, a subsidiary of China VoIP & Digital Telecom, unveils its electronic paperless fax services. The firm said the new services uses VoIP for telephone and fax services at very competitive pricing.
