China Unicom has cut its iPhone handset prices by as much as 17%. The cheapest 3G iPhone now costs 4,999 yuan ($732) vs. 5,999 yuan previously.

Philippines-based Globe Telecom has reported a 26% decline in first quarter profit to P2.95 billion ($65.8m) due to “intense” mobile competition. Consolidated service revenues fell 5% to P15.2 billion.

Bangladesh cellco Grameenphone has reported first quarter profit of BDT3.16 billion ($47m), up 38% year-on-year. Revenue reached a record BDT17 billion, up 8%.

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a five-year deal with BT to develop its all-IP 21st Century Network (21CN).

Malaysian operator Digi has posted a flat first quarter net profit of MYR278.26 million ($86.2m), on 6% higher revenue of MYR1.29 billion.

The IPO of Pakistani Wimax operator Wateen Telecom has closed oversubscribed. The greenshoe option of 90 million additional shares were also sold.

Singapore’s IDA has called for proposals for cloud-based projects, promising to provide up to 50% of financing and free storage and computing facilities for selected projects.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications plans to regulate mobile promotions, including limiting a single promotion to 45 days a year, reports Vietnam News.

The Thai NTC plans to prohibit cellular operators from offering different tariffs for intra-network and inter-network calls, said the Nation.

China is seeking to end anonymous online comments, says Wang Chen, director of the State Council Information Office.
