US carrier BellSouth plans to drop a $2.97 monthly fee for high-speed Internet service after US communications regulators threatened to investigate the charge. Most customers would see the change on their bills within a week, but it could take up to six weeks, BellSouth said.

Dainippon Printing launches SiteCast, an ASP service for mobile phones developed for cross media product promotion. The SiteCast system features a 2-dimensional barcode loaded with information including URLs of products and campaigns which users can scan from print advertising, magazines or catalogues into their mobile equipment.

MTNL signs deal with Wireless Logix India to provide the carrier with audio and video conferencing solutions for business and home customers. MTNL said it plans to offer the unlimited point-to-point audio, video, and SMS bundle at a fixed cost.

State-owned Nepal Telecom lowers its intra-national trunk tariff starting August 31. The carrier said it has readjusted its trunk tariff to 1 Nepali rupee ($0.014) on all general lines and CDMA phones within a distance of 50km in the same zone.
