Philippine telecommunications firm BayanTel signs a multi-million-dollar deal with Ericsson for the expansion of BayanTel's DSL broadband services. BayanTel did not disclose the actual amount of the contract, saying only that the deal is worth "tens of millions of dollars."

The New York Times blocks British Internet readers from seeing a story detailing elements of the investigation into a suspected plot to blow up airliners between Britain and the US. The decision however raised questions from legal and media experts.

Google unveils printable versions of classic books on the Internet. No longer copyrighted works such as Dante Alighieri's 'Inferno' and Victor Hugo's 'Marion de Lorme,' can be printed out at the Google Book Search Web site http://books.google.com, Google said.
