Asia Netcom and Japanese firm Clara Online sign a deal to provide high-speed, international backbone connections for enterprise customers. The two firms predict that with the partnership, communications traffic within Asia, especially in China, Korea, and Japan, would dramatically increase in the next few years.

IMS Research predicts that nearly half a billion people will be watching TV on their mobile phones by 2011. IMS said this trend will be made possible due to the fast adoption of broadcast-based services such as DVB-H, which is seen growing by 50% year-on-year through 2010.

Pantech secures a deal from Chilean network operator, Claro for the supply of its PG-1410 and PG-3210 GSM handsets to the Chilean market. The agreement with Claro is the latest stage in the expansion of Pantech's operations in Latin America.

Microsoft announces that students from Brazil, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan and Norway are among the finalists in the firm's global technology contest for students. Microsoft's annual Imagine Cup drew 68,000 entries worldwide.
