Extreme Networks buys Soapstone Networks software

Extreme Networks has acquired the software assets of Soapstone Networks, which is expected to allow the former to simplify its provisioning and maintaining of Ethernet services for subscribers.

Glenn Weinberg, VP and general manager of Extreme Networks’ software business unit, said the capabilities of the Soapstone Networks software will enable his company “to deliver a more complete, extensible solution to carrier Ethernet service providers.”

Integration of the Soapstone Networks software into the Extreme Networks EPICenter network management system will provision and manage of carrier Ethernet networks and protocols.

These include provider bridging, provider backbone bridging, provider backbone bridging with traffic engineering, Ethernet access protection switching and virtual private line.
