Wireless leader Ericsson and IT services firm CA have announced acquisitions of smaller vendors with capabilities in key growth areas.

Ericsson has purchased Italian systems integrator Pride Spa, and CA has bought service level management software provider Oblicore. Terms were not disclosed in either deal.

Ericsson said the acquisition would add another 1,000 SI experts and consultants, making it the largest of the wireless leader’s six services acquisitions since 2003.

Ericsson says it now has 40,000 service professionals on staff to meet the growing demand from carriers for technology consulting services.

CA said Oblicore’s software would enable it to support service providers and enterprises in building and managing their cloud platforms. Its customers include AT&T, ABN AMRO, BT, France Telecom and T-Systems.

“With Oblicore solutions, these organizations are better equipped to design, monitor and manage service level agreements across their IT service portfolio in business terms,” CA said.

Lisa Erickson-Harris, research director for analyst firm EMA, said the growth in cloud computing “will further increase the demand for service-based management including service level and service value management.”
