Equinix announced the addition of three new participants to its Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange (ECEE) platform, taking the total number of carriers and cloud service providers on ECEE to 55 at the time of this release.
The addition of service providers Colt Technology Services, GTS Central Europe and Norway-based Broadnet extends the depth and reach of Carrier Ethernet services available from the ECEE. Colt provides extensive coverage across Europe and to the U.S., while GTS strengthens Central and Eastern Europe coverage and Broadnet covers Scandinavia.
By joining the ECEE, Colt, GTS and Broadnet gain access to an entire community of global Ethernet partners. The ECEE’s ‘one-to-many’ interconnection model gives the new members the opportunity to create new revenues by selling Ethernet services and connectivity to other ECEE operator members who want to extend connectivity to mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
More than just an interconnection platform, ECEE provides a new, network-neutral way of working that removes the cost and complexity of facilitating transactions between Layer 2 Ethernet networks. This enables global and local service providers to collaborate easily to build end-to-end Ethernet services on demand and cater to the needs of their enterprise customers.
The Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange delivers value to its operator participants by combining large scale Ethernet interconnectivity with a global ecosystem of partners and customers, including 675 operator partners, all securely housed in Equinix’s market-leading International Business Exchange (IBX®) data centres. The ECEE provides scalable connectivity and secure layer 2 global Ethernet reach for its members, and the opportunity for access to new channels of revenue.
