Digitel Mobile Philippines has allocated an extra $9 million for more Ceragon mobile backhaul gear as it migrates to an all-IP Ethernet backhaul network.

The operator is currently conducting two network expansion projects – one to deliver 3G services over long-haul microwave technology in the southern part of the country, and one to expand its 2G service capacity in the north.

“Microwave is an ideal approach to quickly and easily setting up the most cost-efficient and consistently reliable backhaul network,” Digitel senior technical adviser Patrick Lam said.

Digitel's purchases include the multi-service FibeAir IP-10, the FibeAir 3200T and the FibeAir 1500R SDH/SONET system.
