A year and a quarter after DE-CIX and Interwire formed a joint venture to build an IX in Mumbai. Today that JV revealed plans to expand to other major Indian markets, hoping to build upon the company's success at Mumbai IX.
In the first quarter of this year, DE-CIX Interwire is expanding its activities to Delhi, Kolkata, And Chennai where they are building new IXs named, unsurprisingly, DE-CIX Delhi, DE-CIX Kokata, and DE-CIX Chennai. Those three metro areas represent populations of more than 50 million people.
The Indian infrastructure market is undergoing dramatic shifts these days, but underlying the corporate chaos is a powerful growth trend in bandwidth demand. Keeping more of that data local is a no-brainer, and Mumbai-IX itself connects more than 150 peering partners.
