The recession is driving an advertising boom in greater China, according to Google’s advertising arm AdSense.
Ann Wang, online sales & operations manager for AdSense Greater China, says advertising volume has doubled in Taiwan this year and the company has seen “very strong” growth in Hong Kong and the mainland.
Wang said many European and North American firms in industries such as tourism were turning to the region because of the collapse of demand in their home markets.
“The Chinese economy has continued to grow, so I think a lot of foreign firms are testing out the markets here,” she said. “The growth since Q1 has been amazing.”
She would not give detailed figures, but said she predicted “this trend will continue.”
Separately, Yahoo said its mobile homepage traffic has grown more than six times in the past two years, compared with threefold growth globally.
