Sea Fibre Networks is signing up the first customers to a new subsea cable linking the Republic of Ireland to the UK, revealing a deal with European information delivery platform operator Colt.
The firm claims the agreement extends the footprint of its Celtix Connect cable by offering access to Colt’s pan-European network. Traffic will be routed from the cable’s landing point on the UK’s west coast to mainland Europe via London.
François Eloy, Colt’s executive vice president, says he was attracted by the low-latency of Sea Fibre’s 131km link. “Our customers will benefit from high bandwidth connectivity between Ireland and the rest of our extensive pan-European network, enabling us to meet strong demand for national and international high speed connectivity,” he notes.
The firm offers integrated computing and network services to businesses and wholesale customers, over a 35,000 km network spanning 39 major European cities in 21 countries. The network features 18,000 direct fiber to the building connections, and 19 data centers.
Work to deploy the subsea cable – the first to be laid in Europe in over a decade – began in December, and the link is due to be lit by end-January.
