Cognovo has released its Software Defined Modem (SDM) platform designed to reduce cost, size and design complexity for developers of cellular handsets.
The technology, originating from research carried out at ARM – from where Congnovo was spun off -- is expected to appear in handsets during 2012.
The Cognovo platform comprises the Modem Compute Engine; a licensable processor sub-system, the innovative SDM Operating System and a fully integrated development suite.
Cognovo said its programmable approach makes it possible for OEMs and platform providers to reduce next-generation multimode development times by nine to 12 months.
