Ciena has posted its fiscal Q3 numbers and again managed to stay slightly ahead of analyst expectations. However, guidance for fiscal Q4 was more conservative than had been hoped for.
Revenues of $728.7 million were a few million above both median of guidance and the analyst composite number.
The biggest boost came from packet networking and software platforms, while other areas held pretty stable. The Americas were a bit stronger this quarter, while APAC and EMEA were down sequentially. Non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.51 was a few pennies higher than analysts had expected on average.
Looking ahead, the company forecasted fiscal Q4 revenues in the $720 million to $750 million range, while analysts were more in the $750 million to $780 million range.
Adjusted gross margin should be in the mid-40%s, while adjusted opex is expected to be around $250 million. Those numbers have the company's stock down in the pre-market, although it's still early.
