China Mobile and Huawei revealed they have deployed a TD-LTE base station on Mount Everest.
The companies said they have erected the tower at 5,200 meters above sea level. The peak of Mt Everest is 8,848 meters above sea level.
“Bringing 4G to Mount Everest marks an important milestone in global LTE TDD development,” Huawei Wireless Networks president David Wang said.
He said Huawei has now deployed TD-LTE equipment and software for nearly 40 operators worldwide.
China Mobile, Huawei and others deployed GSM towers at the Mt Everest base camp back in 2007, bringing mobile coverage to the world's highest mountain by elevation.
