China Mobile brought connectivity to 4,676 administrative villages in China and 5,367 natural villages as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in 2007, the company said.

In its second annual CSR report, filed on March 3, China Mobile said its program was focused on 'the countryside, life, culture and the environment'.

CEO Wang Jianzhou said the biggest priority was the countryside, where the company has helped achieve 99.5% network coverage of China's administrative villages. Additionally, the company sent 1 billion texts on rural or agricultural topics to nearly 6 million farmers.

The carrier also donated 50 million yuan to a foundation jointly established with the All-China Women's Federation to help children affected by HIV-AIDS to go to school.
