The CDMA Development Group (CDG) will open a global roaming hub to help enable voice and data roaming among the world\'s 300 CDMA operators.
The hub will provide roaming services for carriers in markets in which they don\'t already roaming arrangements.
It will operate alongside existing bilateral roaming agreements and would allow operators to offer international roaming services more quickly and efficiently, said CDG chief operating officer James Person.
According to CDG figures, 455 million customers were signed onto CDMA networks in December last year.
Person said the CDG has an international roaming team, which brings together operators, technology providers and industry consultants from around the world to enable international roaming across cdma2000 Rev A networks.
The team also facilitates inter-standard roaming allowing cmda2000 WorldMode (multi-mode) devices to roam across GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSPA, Mobile Wimax and LTE networks.
The CDG will announce details about the roaming hub within next two months, Person added.
