State-run BSNL announced that it is reducing its fixed line tariffs, enabling customers to make STD calls across the country at just 1 rupee a minute along with reduced rentals and other benefits.

BSNL has brought all its subscribers, paying a monthly rental of 180 rupees or more, under the ambit of one-India tariff plan, through which they will be able to make local call at 1 rupee for three minutes and STD call at rupee one per minute.

The new tariffs would come into effect starting November, BSNL chief AK Sinha, told reporters.

'We hope this tariff plan will arrest the tendency to surrender the fixed line phones,' he said.
