Broadband, mobile to fuel growth

Telecom operators in Asia Pacific are focusing more on the broadband and mobile segments, particularly with the advent of 3G services and rising enduser migration to broadband services, to offset the decline in revenues of the fixed voice segment. According to Frost & Sullivan, the broadband and mobile markets are expected to hit $320.8 billion by end-2008 from $246.2 billion in 2004. As these markets mature and penetration increases, however, service providers will be forced to reduce prices and eventually migrate to flat-rate or capped plans. Operators also have to constantly churn out innovative packages to ward off competition from alternative voice services.
