India's Brightstar, a provider of supply chain management and mobile solutions for the wireless industry, formally enters the country's fixed wireless industry, a company statement said.

The statement said Brightstar will ship its first fixed wireless units in India starting this month.

Fixed wireless devices utilize wireless technology but operate like standard desk phones, and are used to provide connectivity where there is little or no access to landline communications.

The company said it will support Indian consumers with fixed wireless devices that have been developed together with major manufacturers, as well as under its own 'Avvio' brand created specifically for India.

In addition, Brightstar intends to work with manufacturer partners in China and Korea to develop new fixed wireless handsets to meet the needs of the India market.
