Network performance and monitoring vendor P.I.Works said it has completed the world's first LTE self-organizing network (SON) for Indonesian operator BOLT Super 4G LTE.

The vendor has deployed its centralized SON product SON-G on BOLT's LTE-Advanced network of around 7,500 LTE cells.

BOLT became Indonesia's first operator to reach 1 million 4G subscribers, after only a year in service with its TD-LTE network. The operator initially deployed in Jakarta and is now adding new cities to its service.

“Since the BOLT network is growing quickly in both sites and in users, a centralized SON solution is necessary for us to compensate for the growing pains,” BOLT CTO Devid Gubiani said. “BOLT is faster at implementing important new technology. That’s why we are the world’s first SON LTE deployment.”

The SON system provided by P.I.Works offers closed-loop Mobility Robustness (MRO), Root Sequence Index (RSI), PCI conflict detection and resolution, and complementary Automatic Neighbor Relations (cANR) optimization functions.

According to BOLT, adopting the system has increased average throughput rates by 25% for uplink and 22% for downlink traffic, while also improving handover success rate and reducing drop rates.
