French cellco Bouygues Telecom is in the running for the prize of the largest case of bill shock ever recorded.

The operator mistakenly sent a customer a bill for 11.721 quadrillion euros (about US$ quadrillion), which is nearly 6,000 times higher than the annual gross domestic product figure for the entire country.

After initially insisting the bill was correct, and the amount would be automatically debited from the subscriber's account, Bouygues realized the large bill was the result of a printing mistake.
