Wholesale carrier services firm BICS is claiming a landmark in IP Exchange (IPX), agreeing a peering deal with mobile data services provider Aicent.

The pair claim to have developed the world’s largest IPX network through a deal to interconnect their IPX communications. The tie-up aims to combine the flexibility of IP with the security of traditional TDM interconnection to boost rollout of mobile data, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and LTE roaming services by communications service providers.

Mikael Schachne, vice president of BICS mobile data business management, says the collaboration is a significant step that “will accelerate the adoption of IPX as a standard for next-generation IP-based services between mobile operators, fixed-line providers, MVNOs and OTT players.”

Aicent vice president of product marketing, MK Chang, says the network will offer “unmatched global IP coverage,” and offer mobile carriers “an incredible opportunity to offer world-class IP-based interworking and roaming services.”
