Huawei and Axiata have a signed a MoU that covers vendor financing, product development and procurement.
Axiata, Telekom Malaysia’s international arm, said under the two-year agreement, Huawei would provide vendor financing to support the operation and expansion of its networks in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia and Singapore.
It said any financing deal would require the approval of Chinese and Malaysian regulators. Shenzhen-based Huawei has lined up $30 billion in credit from Chinese banks to help customers buy its equipment.
Axiata already sources a large portion of its equipment from Huawei, the operator said.
It said under the MoU it would work with Huawei to develop new technologies and streamline product procurement.
Huawei overtook Nokia Siemens in Q3 to become the world's second largest supplier by mobile infrastructure sales.
