IP network migration company Aviat Networks and OSS/BSS vendor Aptilo networks have announced the first project of their strategic partnership – a Wimax project for India's BSNL.

BSNL chose Aviat to help with its Wimax rollout, and Aviat in turn subcontracted Aptilo as the preferred AAA and service control vendor for the deployments, the companies said.

Aviat will use Aptilo's Wimax AAA+ Server and its Aptilo Wimax Connector, which allows operators to utilize broadband OSS/BSS infrastructure for Wimax networks, even if it does not natively handle Wimax.

“Aptilo's solution helped us preserve BSNL's previous infrastructure investments by seamlessly integrating with our Wireless Services Gateway and Wimax CSN elements,” Aviat vice president of APAC sales Raj Kumar said.

“[This allowed] us to roll out a full mobile WiMAX solution quickly and efficiently,”

Services will commence in the state of Kerala, which has a population of more than 35 million in an area of just 38,000 square kilometers.

Kerala was the last Wimax network installed yet will be the first to launch commercially. According to the vendors this is due to the efficiencies introduced by their products.
