A number of Australian hospitals are currently piloting an IP solution that allows faster access to patient records and hospital services.

The browser-based system, called Tele-Call, uses a wall-mounted 17 inch touch screen to deliver healthcare data such as diagnostic information and patient records along with IPTV, radio, Internet access and movies on demand.

New to the Australian market, the product is set to be deployed at a number of local sites but the provider, Mitel Networks Corp. Australia, was unable to disclose details at this stage. A formal announcement is expected in coming weeks with Mitel channel partner, Telstra Business Systems.

Mitel Australia managing director Gwilym Funnell said Tele-Call gives hospitals an easy solution for informing and entertaining their patients, while tracking the complex information that doctors and nurses need to do their jobs effectively.

'Tele-Call users interact with a shared portal for services and content which can be used to interactively deliver educational physiotherapy, surveys, virtual tours, online gift shops, and hospital information pages,' he said.

The solution delivers electronic patient records such as discharge administration, medication information and lab test reports, dietary services, bed status reporting and digital imaging services.

Funnell said the next step for Tele-Call will offer closed-loop medication management, clinical documentation and integrated nurse-call.
