Apple is reportedly engaged in a project to create an Apple-banded electric car with connected car capabilities.
The company has a secret lab working on the project, which employs several hundred people, the Wall Street Journalreported.
The project, code-named Titan, is said to have designed a vehicle shaped like a minivan. The initiative is several years from completion and there's no guarantee that Apple will see it through.
Apple is also reportedly seeking to collaborate with contract manufacturers such as Magna Steyr, and has held talks over a potential partnership.
Reutersconfirmed that Apple has recently tried to recruit automotive industry employees specialising in fields such as robotics.
Last year Apple launched its CarPlay hands-free iPhone navigation service, and the company has expressed a desire to integrate CarPlay into automobiles from multiple manufacturers.
Apple archrival Google is famously working on a self-driving car, and while Apple's car is not expected to have this functionality, the initiative could lead to the two companies competing in yet another sector.
