Rumors are circulating that Apple plans to unveil its upcoming 'iWatch' wearable device on September 9, on the same day it debuts the next-generation iPhone models.
Re/code's John Paczkowski has stated that a launch is imminent. He did not mention his sources for the information.
The device, which has been dubbed the 'iWatch' by technology media, is expected to use Apple's new Apple’s HealthKit health and fitness platform and HomeKit connected device framework to provide health and fitness monitoring and potentially smart home control functionality.
There's a lot of hype brewing over the iWatch, which pundits believe could have a major impact on the healthcare market.
But Forbes' Dan Diamond believes this hype is well overblown considering we don't even know the name of the device yet.
The e-health market is also still in an early stage of maturity, he noted, so it's premature to assume the iWatch will have a major impact.
A recent survey meanwhile revealed that 80% of consumers are wary of wearable devices due to privacy concerns.
