The online attacks by WikiLeaks supporters continue, with hacker group Anonymous taking down Amazon servers in Europe overnight.
The web retailer’s UK, German and other EU sites went down for half an hour, net security firm Netcraft reported. It said the sites were all hosted at Amazon's data center in Ireland.
Anonymous, which is behind the DDoS attacks on firms that have cut off services to WikiLeaks, was still targeting Mastercard’s website, Netcraft said.
Separately, Dutch authorities have held a 16-year-old hacker in detention over the attacks on Visa and MasterCard, although they released a second youth who had admitted taking part in the worldwide attacks, Reuters reports.
It is the first arrest after the attacks disrupted traffic to credit card firms’ websites on Wednesday and Thursday.
They are among several companies to cut off support for online payments to Wikileaks over the past week.
WikiLeaks has distanced itself from the hackers’ actions, stating it has no contact with Anonymous.
