Alcatel-Lucent has
signed
a symbolic frame contract valued at EUR750 million ($1.1 billion) to coincide with the visit of President Nicolas Sarkozy to China early this week.
Some of the contracts for China Mobile and China Unicom had already been announced, Alcatel-Lucent said, without elaborating. The bulk of the agreement was a EUR600 million GSM/GPRS/EDGE expansion contract with China Mobile. It also covers a TD-SCDMA trial network, which the vendor has already delivered.
The other part is a EUR150 million agreement to supply CDMA and GSM gear to China Unicom on the mainland and in Macau.
Sarkozy and Chinese President Hu Jintao took part in the signing ceremony in Beijing on November 26.
