Thailand's AIS has increased its 3G investment for the 2013-2015 period to 90 billion baht ($2.72 billion), up from the 70 billion baht previously planned.
Somprasong Boonyachai, chairman of the executive committee of AIS parent InTouch, revealed the additional allocation to the Nation.
AIS is conducting a nationwide deployment of a 2.1-GHz 3G network. The company aims to achieve 90% population coverage this year and 97% in 2015.
InTouch plans to focus on its existing businesses, such as its AIS mobile flagship, after the company was priced out of an attempt to acquire an SD digital TV channel license during an auction last month.
Somprasong also confirmed that AIS intends to bid for an 1800-MHz LTE license during an auction expected to commence late this year.
AIS also launched two trial 2.3-GHz LTE networks in February last year.
