Bharti Airtel is courting offers to sell its tower assets in Bangladesh as well as Africa, according to reports, as it aims to raise some $2 billion from infrastructure sales.
The company has received separate offers for its tower networks in Bangladesh and Africa, sources told the Economic Times.
Airtel Bangladesh's towers could fetch the company at least $200 million, according to the report.
Bharti Airtel has been rumored to be pursuing a sale of its African towers for some time. The company has been pursuing ways to optimize the value of its African tower assets, including potential infrastructure sharing deals, ever since it entered the market through the $9 billion acquisition of Zain's African assets in 2010.
But the potential sale of Airtel Bangladesh's infrastructure assets is a new development.
Airtel has mobile operations in 17 African markets, and owns around 15,000 towers across the subcontinent. The sale being negotiated is reportedly worth up to $1.8 billion. Potential buyers include US and Middle Eastern tower management companies.
Domestically, Bharti Airtel conducted an IPO for its tower arm Bharti Infratel in late 2012. The company also owns a 42% stake in wholesale tower operator Indus Towers.
