The India Middle-East-Western Europe (IMEWE) – the third major cable linking India and Europe – went live on Friday.

The 3.84 Tbps cable connects Mumbai with Marseille via Pakistan and the Middle East.

It is invested by Bharti Airtel, Etisalat, Orange, Pakistan Telecom, Saudi’s STC, Telecom Egypt, Sparkle and Tata Communications.

The cable joins SeaMeWe3 and SeaMeWe 4 in providing bandwidth from India’s west coast to western Europe.

The three fiber pair cable was constructed by Alcatel-Lucent under a contract awarded early 2008.
