The number of TD-LTE base stations around the world will hit 800,000 in 2014, covering 3 billion people, and 150 million TD-LTE terminals will be sold this year, according to China Mobile.
Based on the 2014 plan released by Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI), which focuses on the key areas for TD-LTE commercialization, GTI has set up a complete working group system covering network, terminal, spectrum and service.
Jointly founded by China Mobile, Bharti Airtel, SoftBank and other leading international mobile network operators in 2011, GTI is platform that promotes the global deployment and commercialization of TD-LTE.
GTI has released a range of white papers for multi-mode and multi-band terminals, spectrum, networks, synchronization, 3.5-GHz and consumer electronics, and has launched 5-mode 13-band smartphones with global roaming capability.
The initiative has been committed to promoting the global deployment of TD-LTE by catalyzing the convergence of LTE TDD/FDD, maturity and large scale application of LTE terminals, enhancing the global roaming and widespread applications of TD-LTE to consumer electronic and Internet of Things while driving rapid development of the industry chain and international market expansion for the related industries.
Currently, GTI has 73 partners and 100 operator members. With the efforts made by GTI, there are already 28 commercial TD-LTE networks in the world, and more than 40 operator members are planning to construct TD-LTE networks in their countries.
