How the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship playoffs standings are formed
The WJHC follows a familiar formula. At the beginning of the 10 teams are divided into two groups, the first four teams in each group qualify for the quarterfinals, and teams ranked last, play a series of two victories between themselves for the right to remain in the elite division.
For a victory in regulation time in the group is awarded three points, for a victory in overtime or shootout - two, for a loss in overtime or by shootout - one, and the loser in regulation time does not receive any points. In case of a tie in the standings the team that wins the individual matchup will be the higher in the standings.
In the quarterfinals, the teams play the usual formula "cross-over", ie Group A winner will play with the fourth team of Group B, the other pairs will meet respectively 2A vs. 3B, 3A vs. 2B and 4A vs. 1B.
But before the semifinals, the remaining four teams will be re-seeded by the result of the group stage: the best team will play with the fourth, the second - with the third. Group place will be taken into account, and in case of a tie, the points, puck difference, number of goals scored and seeding before the tournament will be taken into account in this order.
