A few weeks ago, Oleksandr Usyk's next fight was officially announced. On August 26th, he will defend his three belts against regular WBA champion Daniel Dubois.
Despite the announcement, the Ukrainian champion remains socially active, making newsworthy messages. He even managed to sign a contract with a Ukrainian football club. And all this with the fight against Dubois only one month away!
Telecomasia.net tells you about Usyk's latest adventures.
Bet on boxing with 1xBetChallenging Conor McGregor to fight at Wembley Stadium
Every big fight goes through the obligatory media procedures and press conferences. But the most interesting things usually happen in the flash interviews. It was there that Usyk shook up the media. First, he was asked to comment on the announcement of a fight between Tyson Fury and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou is going to earn some decent money. For Francis Ngannou, this is a great opportunity, but for Tyson Fury, it's definitely not. Doesn't it seem strange that instead of choosing a top-10 guy, he is choosing someone who has never boxed before? Is Fury afraid of me? Yes, of course! Of course. Greedy belly [Fury] is afraid of me. Tyson, let's make it happen. I'm ready. After I fight Dubois I am ready to go, [but] my main focus now is August 26.
But Oleksandr did not stop there and challenged Conor McGregor. Moreover, he offered to fight at Wembley Stadium.
I saw that Conor McGregor put some significant weight on his body. Hey Conor, why don’t we make a fight at Wembley?
Some people didn't get the joke and thought the boxer might cut weight to fight the Irishman. Mischief managed.
Bet on boxing with 1xBetPolitical ambitions
In an interview with YouTube channel SecondsOut, Usyk briefly outlined his plans for boxing and beyond.
I'll go to cruiserweight, become an absolute champion once again, and then I'll quit and run for president.
Although Oleksandr is already 36 years old, he still weighs less than 100 kg in the off-season. Therefore a comeback to cruiserweight is likely, but there isn't much time left. As for a political career, he was indifferent to politics for a long time. However, he didn't rule out getting into politics even in 2020.
To get there [into politics], I need a big team, a good team, a loyal team. And I have to understand what I have to do. I don't want to just show up and push a button or support someone without really caring. I can't just do what I'm told. Today you have to do this, tomorrow you have to do that, the day after that you have to say that. I don't want to do that. And I'm not going to.
Last year a famous Ukrainian boxer Ivan Redkach leaked information that a party was being made especially for Usyk.
A new puppet party is being cooked for the devout patriot Usyk now. Pilot name - "For Vilna Ukraine". As soon as Usyk gets into politics, he will be like all the others, he will corrupt the budget, he will forget God immediately! You can't trust people who shout about faith in public. A true believer does good deeds quietly!
Signing a contract with a professional football club
The fight against Conor McGregor and Usyk's desire to become president can be treated as jokes, but his football career is quite real. Recently, Oleksandr signed a one-year contract with Ukrainian club Polissya from Zhytomyr. Last season Polissya finished second in the Ukrainian second division and moved up to the Premier League.
It is worth mentioning that Oleksandr has already played one match as a member of this team. It was a test match on February 3, 2022 against Veres. Usyk took the field in the 76th minute as a striker and almost scored a goal. Polissya won that match 2-1.
The Ukrainian Premier League season starts at the end of July. So we should expect Usyk's debut in the UPL in the fall at the earliest.
