After losing the toss and being put into bat, the Super Giants got off to a poor start, losing four wickets for 22 runs with Quinton de Kock getting five, Brandon King four, Matthew Breetzke six and Marcus Stoinis zero before a fifth wicket partnership of 121 between Kane Williamson who made 56 not out (5 x 4’s, 2x6’s) and man of the match Heinrich Klaasen with 66 ( 5x4’s , 4x6’s) brought some respectability to the Super King’s score as they finished on 149/6 from their 20 overs while Rashid Khan with two for 34 from his four overs was the pick of the bowlers for MI Cape Town.

The home side chased down the total in 14.5 overs securing a bonus point win in the process to take them second on the table.

They got off to a brisk start, scoring 75 in 8.1 overs before losing the wicket off Rassie van der Dussen for 24.

Ryan Rickelton with 63 (3x4’s and 6x6’s) was the second wicket to fall. He was caught by Klaasen off Junior Dala in the eleventh over. They lost one more wicket, that off Afghanistani Sediqullah Atal who made eight in his first match. Dewald Brevis with 26 not out and George Linde who smashed an unbeaten 29 from just eight balls including 24 in Stoinis’ third over. Linde eventually hit one four and four sixes in his eight ball innings to help secure the bonus point win for the home side, sparking huge celebrations by the Newlands faithful.

Klaasen who hasn’t had a very good tournament said it was a frustrating campaign and too late.

Heinrich Klaasen
It's been a long frustrating campaign. It's too late and yeah, it's been terrible. I've been there before so I know exactly what to do. It's just so frustrating. But it's part of the game and you need to get yourself out of there and it's a bit of a bitter pill to swallow that it's a little bit too late.

Captain Keshav Maharaj was very disappointed with the match saying that they probably lost it in the power play.

Keshav Maharaj
Honestly very disappointed but I think if you look at it we probably lost our way in the power play when we first started with the bat. Kudos to Klassy and Kane for giving us a compatible score. We could get about better but probably too many boundary balls in that phase and then never got back from there. It's been that sort of season-wise, but yeah, it has been frustrating and disappointing. I think for everyone just as, not just from here as a skipper.

Meanwhile MI Cape Town Captain Rashid Khan was happy with the win.

Rashid Khan
I think it was that kind of win for us, especially in the last stage of the competition, it's quite important each game. The way we started with the ball throughout and then with the bat was absolutely amazing. It was much needed for me, especially taking some wickets which I haven't taken much in this competition.

The win moves MI Cape Town to 21 points after seven games, three points behind Paarl Royals who beat the Pretoria Capitals by 11 runs in the first game of the day in Paarl. Sunrisers Eastern Cape are third on 19 points after seven games while Joburg Super Kings occupy fourth place with 10 points from six games. Pretoria Capitals have nine points from seven games while Durban’s Super Giants sit at the bottom of the table with eight points from eight games.
