The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, Rodri, has issued a strong response to Cristiano Ronaldo's recent claim about the Ballon d’Or being 'unfair' after the Manchester City star was awarded the prize in October.
Bet Football on Bet365During the recent Globe Soccer Awards collection last month, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner took a hit that Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior was robbed of the award after the honor was bestowed upon Rodri.
"Vinicius Jr should have won the Ballon d'Or, in my opinion it was clear. It was unfair. This is why I love Globe Soccer Awards; they are honest."
Rodri has now spoken out on Ronaldo's comments while speaking in an interview with the Spanish media site AS.
"Well, it was a surprise, really, because he knows better than anyone how this award works and, above all, how the winner is chosen. This year, the journalists who vote have decided that I should win it. Probably, these same journalists were the ones who at some point voted for him to win it, and I imagine that then he would have agreed."
The Manchester City midfielder is currently experiencing a difficult 2024/25 campaign as Rodri ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and was ruled out for almost the entire season. His absence has had a huge impact on City, with Pep Guardiola currently sitting outside of the Premier League top four. Manchester City will now take on West Ham on Saturday, January 4, at the Etihad Stadium.
