Mumbai Indians women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her team for a great team effort as they became the first team in the Women's Premier League (WPL) to regain the title. Mumbai Indians defeated three-time finalists Delhi Capitals by eight runs to win the WPL 2025 title at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
"It was a great team effort. I would like to congratulate the Delhi team, it was not easy for us. At the end of the day, you feel happy, really happy with the way we played. We fought till the last ball, all about being there and doing the right things again and again," Harmanpreet said after the match as she and her teammates erupted in joy for winning the title for the second time, adding to the WPL crown they bagged in its inaugural year in 2023.
Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians were restricted to a below-par 149/7 in 20 overs with the skipper top-scoring with a vital 66 off 44 balls. Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 30 runs to the Mumbai Indians score.

The Mumbai Indians came out and restricted Delhi Capitals to 141/9 in 20 overs with Nat Sciver-Brunt taking 3-30, while Amelia Kerr picked 2-25.
Marizanne Kapp scored 40 off 26 balls and Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 30 runs while Niki Prasad made 25 not out as the Delhi Capitals batters lost their way towards the end of their innings, and failed to push through to victory from a strong position.
It was not easy when I went in. But I had that belief that if I stayed there and kept rotating strike, and with Nat there, I did not need to take risks. Just wanted to support her. The partnership was amazing, wanted to keep things simple and easy. We took calculated risks and that helped us.
Kaur said this win meant a lot for her and her team.
It (this win) means a lot. In the first season, we tried to do everything right. When we met this season, we discussed how things did not go right (last season). We wanted to keep things simple and as a team, we did that. Really happy we got support from the support staff, and really happy the way we played.
Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals' captain said it was unfortunate that they could not get over the line.
We have had another good season but unfortunately could not get over the line. Full credit to Mumbai - they have been excellent throughout and thoroughly deserved their win. We could not get it together with the bat, 150 was a good target for us. Another partnership for a couple of overs might have given us a chance. We are all pretty disappointed
The Mumbai Indians players were obviously elated by winning their second title.
My first MI final and so happy that we could conquer today. I came out here and when I bowled the first ball…Harry was expecting me to take the first ball. Extremely happy (when Nat Sciver-Brunt picked Meg Lanning and I dismissed Shafali Verma) and we carried that momentum throughout. So happy to be a part of this historic team.
All-rounder Amanjot Kaur said there were expectations from them but they were not feeling extra pressure.
Because we have won before, expectations can be a little more. But we have played big games before, so it did not feel like (a very different occasion). Our team meetings are simple. They had won before us, but today was a new day, a new match. We had good depth and we would not leave this game for anyone (else to win)..
Amelia Kerr, who won the T20 World Cup with New Zealand last year, was elated to win another WPL title with MI. “It has been a good year for me, pretty special. Stoked that I get to share the dressing room with some great people. When all is said and done, you are celebrating with great people.”
