American Maycee Barber is only 24 years old, but she's already ranked number 11 in the UFC's flyweight division. In this article we will talk about the promising girl, who is constantly looking for new ways to improve herself.
Maycee Barber was born on May 18, 1998, in Greeley, Colorado, USA. Barber's family is very big, Maycee has two sisters and three brothers.
Maycee's parents had their own martial arts academy and always tried to teach their children to love an active lifestyle. Our heroine's journey into the world of martial arts began as early as three years old. The little girl was taken to the karate section.
When Bucky and Maryann Barber sent their children to martial arts, they wanted to teach them self-defense. But that wasn't enough for Maycee. The more she practiced, the more she realized she wanted to commit herself to fighting. Already at the age of 13 she told her parents she planned to become a UFC fighter.
Maycee's parents were not very enthusiastic about her ideas. They were worried that their daughter would get seriously hurt in real fights. But after seeing the sparkle in her eyes, they decided they would do anything to get Maycee to the top level. The family traveled across the States in search of new fighting techniques for that. Maycee soaked up the knowledge and tried to combine it successfully. Because of her many travels, Maycee's parents closed their academy and started working on developing their own cafe.
Maycee made serious progress working with famous trainers. She trained with Greg Jackson and trained BJJ with the Gracie brothers. It became apparent that Barber was ready for the next step.
On January 7, 2017, Barber competed at the amateur level at the SCL 56 tournament. In just 20 seconds, she took down Christina Breault and went pro. Maycee signed a contract with the LFA promotion. With four wins, the American received an invitation to the Dana White's Contender Series.
On July 17, 2018, Barber defeated Jamie Colleen by technical knockout and received a contract with the UFC.
On November 10, 2018, Macy made her debut in UFC Fight Night 139. Barber defeated Hannah Cifers by TKO in the second round. The promising American then earned two more early wins, taking out JJ Aldrich and Jillian Robertson.
Barber's UFC career was developing as successfully as possible, but the girl had a serious challenge ahead of her. In January 2020, Macy lost by unanimous decision to Roxanne Modafferi and injured her cruciate ligaments. Barber recovered for a year, returned in February 2021 and lost again to Alexa Grasso by decision.
Having faced hardships, Maycee showed fortitude and got back on the winning track. Barber put together a winning streak of three consecutive fights and secured a place in the top-15 ranking in the division.
At the end of 2020, the girl admitted that she has never been in a relationship and has never had a boyfriend. All her free time Maycee devotes to training. It is worth noting that she is not the only member of her family in professional MMA. Her brother Wyatt has a contract with Bellator, but has yet to make his promotional debut.
The 24-year-old has 11 wins and only two losses to her credit. She has great promise in the promotion and has every chance to fight for the championship belt in the next couple of years.
