Rodri was replaced by Mateo Kovacic after he appeared to have hurt his right knee in a clash with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey in the box in the 22 minutes of the match against the Gunners. Rodri immediately signaled discomfort to his teammates, and medical staff called for a stretcher to be brought onto the pitch in case of more serious damage. However, Rodri left the pitch on his own without too much assistance and remained at the stadium for the rest of the game.

However, a later report from Spain has now claimed that the 2024 Ballon d'Or contender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during the huge title clash at the Etihad Stadium, ruling the midfielder out of the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Rodri has rarely been injured throughout his career, with his longest layoff coming at the start of this season, as he missed three games due to a hamstring injury. City will now have to replace him with former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic for the rest of the season, although they have different options in the midfield, including Bernado Silva, IIkay Gundogan, Nunes Matheus, and others.
