Steve Cooper has become second manager to be sacked in the new campaign of the Premier League after Leicester City announced the immediate termination of the manager following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea, leaving the club two points above the relegation zone.
Bet Premier League on Bet365The former Nottingham Forest boss joined the Foxes on a three-year deal in June but has been dismissed after a five-game winless run in all competitions. A statement released by the club today confirms the termination of Steve Cooper, assistant manager Alan Tate, and first-team coach and analyst Steve Rands have also left.
“Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position with immediate effect … Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future. “Men’s first team training will be overseen by coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible.”
Cooper took over from Maresca in the summer after the Italian had led Leicester to the 2023-24 Championship title and promotion back into the Premier League. However, under the Welsh manager, the Foxes have just two wins from 12 league matches and have conceded 14 goals in their last five games in all competitions.
Cooper has now become the second Premier League manager to be sacked this season, after Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag last month.
