LeBron James and his eldest son Bronny James made NBA history by sharing the court and playing together for the first time during the much anticipated Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason game against Phoenix.
Bet NBA on Bet365They became the first father-son duo to play at the same time and on the same team in NBA history. Bonny, at age 20, along with his father, appeared together at the start of the second quarter in the Lakers’ 118-114 preseason defeat to the Phoenix Suns in Palm Desert, east of Los Angeles.
The start to the game for the 20-year-old wasn’t quite good, with him committing two turnovers before he missed a three-point attempt when LeBron James set a screen for him. Bronny attempted just one shot on the court, while his father, LeBron James, impressed with 19 points in just 16 minutes and 20 seconds on the court before sitting out the second half.
"For a father, it means everything." For someone who didn't have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son. Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that's one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for or wish for."
The Lakers went on to lose 118-114, but the big match moment was the James family making NBA history.
Bronny joined the Lakers as a second-round draft pick from the University of Southern California in June. LeBron, 39, is the NBA's all-time record point scorer and a four-time NBA winner.
The four-time NBA winner signed a new two-year deal with the Lakers following Bronny's arrival at the franchise. The Lakers have lost their second consecutive preseason game but still have four more preseason games before the start of the season, including the next one on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks. The 2024-25 NBA season begins on October 22, with the Lakers in action against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
