The LaLiga 2024/25 season has started, and despite all transfer constraints, Barcelona have been in super form. However, the early odds place them second in the LaLiga title race, just behind Europe's most successful football club. On the other hand, even though Real Madrid started more disappointingly, they remain the favourites to retain the LaLiga title. Girona, Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao are the contenders, while Rayo Vallecano, Valladolid, Mallorca, Leganes and Las Palmas are the underdogs in the title race. Below are the analyses of the teams that will likely finish in the top four, the winner and the Pichichi Trophy winner.

Real Sociedad
Forty-two years without lifting the LaLiga, playing year after year, Real Sociedad fought through the abyss of draught in their 42 years without winning their league trophy. Real Sociedad sought to be in the top 4 race this season. At the end of 2023/2024, Real Sociedad finished 6th on the table due to player crises, and everything seems to stay the same going forward. With the likes of Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal, and Brais Mendez being linked to a move out of the club, it will be inconceivable for them to finish in the top four ahead of clubs like Sevilla, Athletic, and Girona.
Real Betis
Real Betis have faced the relegation battle numerous times and still fought back to the top tier of Spanish football. With 5.00 odds placed on Betis to finish in the top 4, they are underdogs in the top 4 race. However, they remain a side with relentless effort to win. Playing hard and intensely, Betis' substantial squad and loyalty to fans is a critical factor for them finishing top of the league with a winning mentality, part of which earned them the 7th position in the 2023/2024 season and the Copa del Rey in the 2021/20222 season. Manuel Pellegrini is still the team manager. He will fight harder for the top position this season and win as many games as possible. However, if they do not make the top 4, they will at least claim one European ticket.
Girona
Last season, Girona exceeded all expectations by finishing third in the league. They finished closely behind Barça and the ghost of Santiago, winning 25, drawing 6, and losing just 7 out of 38 games played. The Blanquivermells have signed new players like Ladislav Krejci and Alejandro Francés in the latest transfer season, adding prominent spice to their defence line, one of the major issues faced in the last season. Without a doubt, Michel Sanchez will lead the team to a spot in Europe if a top 4 finish looks impossible.
Athletic Bilbao
The Athletic Club have sometimes, in history, dominated LaLiga. Now, they have been relegated to fighting for a top-four place. However, despite interest from top clubs, the club has done very well in keeping Nico Williams in their squad. The youngster was one of the reasons why Spain won the Euro 2024 in Germany, scoring an outrageous goal in the final to give Spain a lead to win the cup.
Athletic Bilbao finished in the fifth position last season, which was enough to land them a place in the European playoff, and they sought to compete aggressively this season. With this, the club will undoubtedly make the top four this season due to the players' value and the coach's creativity.
- Bet: Athletic Bilbao will finish in the top four 3.50 odds
Barcelona
The Catalan Giants had financial issues in the previous season. They even changed their coach, with Hansi Flick now in charge. No doubt, Flick has the sole task of bringing the club to their former glory of winning trophies and the Champions League. However, seeing the German coach win the league this season will be beyond magical. Due to the club's financial status, the new coach has faced numerous challenges, including failing to sign the Spanish winger Nico Williams, who was expected to boost the attack on the wing side, and lost İlkay Gündoğan back to Manchester City. Undoubtedly, the Catalans will have troubles in the new season due to insufficient squad depth and failure to sign valuable players whose play is essential to the club. The only hope for Barcelona will be to finish in the top 4.
Atlético de Madrid
Atlético Madrid finished 4th last season and are among the top 4 candidates each season. They have been active in the transfer window and are spending heavily. They splashed over a hundred million euros on Julián Alvarez and Conor Gallagher. They signed last season's Pichichi Trophy winner, Alexander Sørloth, from Villareal and centre-back Robin Le Normand for Real Sociedad. Undoubtedly, they will finish at least in the top 4 and possibly second, just behind Real Madrid.
- Bet: Atlético de Madrid to Finish in Top 4 for 1.44 odds
Real Madrid, the Favourite to Win
Starting the season with a 1-1 draw against Mallorca, Real Madrid are yet to be satisfied with their 2023/2024 season triumph. As the defending champions, Real Madrid have added to their league-winning squad. They added Kylian Mbappé to the team, and the World Cup-winning star has already made his presence known in the UEFA Super Cup final against Atlanta. Moreover, with Vinicius, Rodrygo, Bellingham, and Mbappé, fans are further convinced that no team in the league can stop Madrid from winning the title.
- Bet: Madrid to win outright 1.40 odds
- Real Madrid to win LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Champions League for 13.00 odds

LaLiga is already full of top players who are well-organised in front of the goal. Lewandowski, Vinicius Jnr, Jude Bellingham, Dovbysk, Griezman, and Sorloth fought for last season's Golden Boot, but it ended up going to Dovbysk. This season, the transfer window has added new faces in the race. Kylian Mbappé and Julian Alvarez will all line up for the Pichichi Trophy.
However, Kylian Mbappé, PSG's all-time highest goal scorer, is expected to do more. He already announced his arrival with a goal in the UEFA Super Cup, and bookmakers have booked him to become the leading scorer in the 2024/2025 LaLiga season. So, it is time to see Mbappé score 35+ goals and possibly win the Pichichi Trophy.
