Bet Football on Bet365Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe forward was not included in the international squad for the October international break because of a muscle injury concern he sustained in Real Madrid's last game. Mbappe enjoyed his brief vacation by staying at the Bank Hotel in Stockholm from Wednesday to Friday last week.
However, according to Swedish news outlet Expressen, police are reportedly looking into an incident that allegedly occurred at the Bank Hotel, where Mbappé stayed during his visit.
"According to information obtained by Expressen, police are investigating the star, who is reasonably suspected of rape and sexual assault," the newspaper wrote.
In response to the alleged rape news circulating on social media, Mbappé wasted no time on Monday afternoon in debunking the rumors as "fake news," as he wrote on his X account. The Real Madrid forward further questions the timing of the allegations.
"FAKE NEWS!!!! It's becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance."
The Swedish prosecutor's office has confirmed the opening of a rape case without naming the footballer Kylian Mbappé, who according to local media is at the center of the investigation. The events occurred on October 10 in a hotel in Stockholm, when the athlete was in the city. On Tuesday, the Swedish prosecutor's office confirmed in a statement:
"Due to media reports about a suspected rape in Stockholm, the prosecutor can confirm that a report of rape has been received by the police."
Further reports claim that investigators and a forensic unit were at the alleged crime scene on Monday. The authorities in Sweden may request further action, possibly involving extradition if necessary.
Mbappe recently faced heavy criticism in his home country, France, for missing their Nations League games against Israel and Belgium while being available to play for his club Real Madrid. However, French coach Didier Deschamps has downplayed the situation, insisting that there’s no issue to discuss.
Mbappe is the third-all-time highest goalscorer for France, having scored 48 goals in 86 caps for his country. He won the World Cup in 2018 and also helped France to victory in the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
